La Playa Hotel, in Carmel-by-the-Sea, began as an artist’s house. It still reads that way. Arches, stained glass, rooms that hold onto something of their past. A renovation by The Post Company makes space for the present by adding a signature eccentric character. Outside, Monterey cypress trees line the Pacific. Carmel and the surrounding town hold onto their artisan roots, shaped as much by the landscape as by the people within it.
